on June 20th and 21st the seventh edition of the international conference entitled Regional Government Forum took place in Szczecin – the capital of the Westpomeranian Region.
This year’s forum was held under the banner of “Territorial regional government challenges within the new European perspective” and was attended by over 300 participants from the following European Union member states: Poland, Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary as well as Ukraine and Moldova, the East European partners, who held talks on the most important territorial regional government issues, their significance for regional development, territorial regional government unit financing, the role of the public-private partnership, the possibilities of regional economic cooperation and the role of science within that scope as well as the significance of the Eastern Partnership within the scope of strengthening international cooperation amongst the regions.
We are certain that the international formula of the Forum permitted a wide ranging exchange of points of view and opinions on the effectiveness of regional government structures amongst the representatives of all the levels of administration, scientific and economic communities. Undoubtedly, the honorary patronage of Prof. Jerzy Buzek – President of the European Parliament and the presence of the guest of honour Dr. Janusz Lewandowski - European Commissioner for Financial Programming and the Budget who gave an opening lecture on the new EU financial perspective for 2014 - 2020 elevated the significance of the event.
We do hope that the conference was, for many of its participants, a source of valuable experience and an opportunity to strengthen mutual contacts. Since it was our intention to facilitate such contacts and to bring closer neighbouring representatives, which in turn should entice the creation of a friendly atmosphere for the development of multi level cooperation and implementation of common projects.
We would like to take this opportunity to invite you for the next edition of the Regional Government Forum.
